Released in June 2025, K-Pop Demon Hunters tells the story of the K-Pop superstar group HUNTR/X. On stage, they are idols performing in front of tens of thousands of fans. But behind the lights, the members secretly become demon hunters, protecting their fans from supernatural forces.

The film quickly captured the attention of global audiences thanks to its vivid portrayal of the K-Pop world , along with many details deeply rooted in Korean culture such as public bathhouses, traditional medicine clinics, and restaurants specializing in mixed rice dishes (gukbap).

According to Netflix, the film garnered 482 million views in its first six months after release. Additionally, lyric videos for the film attracted approximately 32 million views, demonstrating the strong reach of the soundtrack across international music platforms.

K-Pop drama Demon Hunters is currently nominated for two Oscars at the 2026 Academy Awards: Best Animated Film and Best Original Song. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place early Monday morning next week, Vietnam time.

The second part of the film continues to be directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation. The producers have not yet announced an official release date. Some sources suggest the project could launch in 2029 or later.

Director Maggie Kang said she was thrilled that the Korean-themed story had garnered such great interest from global audiences.

Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Animation representatives Kristine Belson, President of Animation, and producer Damien de Froberville also praised the creative vision of the directing team.

“Maggie and Chris brought a very unique perspective to the film, telling a story that resonated with audiences worldwide. We are delighted to continue our collaboration with them to expand on this story in the sequel,” a Sony representative stated.

The success of K-Pop Demon Hunters is seen as proof of the growing influence of K-Pop culture in the global entertainment industry.

With the involvement of an experienced production team and the backing of Netflix and Sony, the sequel is expected to continue attracting audience attention and open up more international collaborations in the entertainment industry.
