A cat owner has left internet users in hysterics after revealing the unexpected place she found her black pet sleeping, with social media users unprepared for just how relaxed the feline appeared.

TikTok user Breanne (@bigspoon2012) searched her house for her cat, only to eventually discover him unwinding comfortably in her bed. But the black feline wasn’t just snoozing in a typical curled-up position. Instead, he was sprawled out flat on his back, paws stretched up in the air, completely relaxed and fast asleep.

As Breanne, of Sacramento, California, tried to work out why her pet was in such a deep slumber in the middle of the day, she quickly realized what had made the spot so irresistible. The cat was lying directly on her heating pad. Her surprise was unmistakable in the clip, as she can be heard exclaiming, “Oh heck no,” while filming the moment.

Internet users, however, couldn’t get enough of the cat’s blissed-out state. The video has since gone viral on TikTok, racking up more than 1.7 million views and over 385,000 likes at the time of writing. Hundreds of viewers flooded the comments to praise the feline’s ability to relax like a seasoned professional.

Needless to say, the cat appeared to be living his best life, fully stretched out in bed with the heat pressed against his back. Fortunately, the bemused owner didn’t seem too bothered by the discovery. In a lighthearted TikTok comment, Breanne joked that, when it comes to the heating pad, it is simply “finders keepers.”

While the scene amused millions online, experts say there is a very real reason that felines are drawn to warm spots. Experts at PetMD say cats have a higher natural body temperature than humans—typically around 100 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit—which means they often seek out heat to stay comfortable and conserve energy. Warm surfaces help felines relax their muscles and maintain body heat without expending extra effort.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) also notes that domesticated cats retain instincts from their desert-dwelling ancestors, making them especially fond of sunlit patches, radiators and heated blankets. Heat can be particularly soothing for felines while they sleep, allowing them to fully relax in positions that signal complete trust and comfort—such as lying on their backs with their bellies exposed.

In the days since the cat’s antics went viral, social-media users have continued to weigh in, with 690 comments posted so far. Many viewers joked that the feline looked like he had endured a long day’s work.

One comment reads: “Like he worked a double shift or something.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “I think you mean he found HIS heating pad.”

A third person replied: “He’s laying in the bed like he got bills to pay.”

One commenter summed up the general consensus by writing: “He’s not spoiled, he’s well kept.”

For many viewers, the clip served as a reminder that when cats find warmth, comfort and a good place to nap, nothing—not even ownership—stands in their way.
