Owners Pay $300 for Puppy Classes, Disbelief at What Golden Retriever Does

Pet parents enrolled their puppy named Goose in a pricey training class, expecting progress and focus, only to discover the pup had other plans for the lesson.

As the class got underway, eager dogs sat in a circle beside their owners, alert and ready for training. But Goose, a 6-month-old golden retriever, took a different approach. He stretched out on the floor by his owners’ feet and fell asleep during the $300 class. The owners watched in disbelief as their costly lesson turned into Goose’s impromptu nap session.

In a TikTok video posted last week to the account @thegoodboygoosey, Goose’s owner filmed the contrast between the attentive puppies and theirs, who appeared completely unfazed as the class continued around him. While his body remained on the mat, his head drooped onto the floor. The awkward position didn’t stop him from catching up on sleep.

The owner told Newsweek via TikTok the entire class found his slumber party “very cute.” But for these pet parents, the nap became an “expensive lesson,” as the caption read.

When the instructor noticed the sleepy puppy, she approached him as any teacher would a dozing student. There was no sleeping on her watch—or on the owners’ dime.

“The instructor came over and gently woke him up,” the owner said.

She crouched down to his level, putting her face against his. Goose responded with a kiss, but remained on the floor. The class cheered for him when he finally sat up after his owner called his name.

Why Puppies Sleep So Much

While Goose’s nap may have seemed like a mischievous choice, it’s common for puppies to snooze frequently. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), young dogs can sleep 18 to 20 hours a day as their bodies and brains grow, and even short bursts of activity—like a training class full of new sights, smells, and commands—can quickly tire them out.

Sleep is essential for a puppy’s growth and the development of the central nervous system, brain, immune system and muscles. Owners should encourage rest and build it into a consistent routine, as pups thrive on regular schedules.

A cozy puppy bed or soft mat can make nap time more inviting, while a well-ventilated crate can provide a safe space for uninterrupted sleep.

A second jokingly commented: “He wanna learn online.”

And a third user posted: “Me anytime I have to socialize with people.”
