Right then, buckle up buttercups, because we're about to dive headfirst into a frankly bonkers batch of upcoming holidays. Forget your predictable christmas and your yawn-inducing bank holidays, we're talking the crème de la weird, the absolute pinnacle of peculiar celebrations heading your way faster than you can say "is that a spumoni-flavoured mosquito repellent?". Whether you're male, female, or identify as a particularly enthusiastic houseplant, there's bound to be something here to tickle your funny bone and maybe, just maybe, inspire you to celebrate something truly… unique.

Say cheese! It's World Photography Day (19th august)

Right, listen up you budding ansel adamses and enthusiastic instagrammers, it's World Photography Day! Time to dust off that fancy camera you got for your birthday three years ago and haven't quite figured out yet, or, you know, just keep hammering away on your phone – we're not judging. Today's the day to celebrate the sheer wizardry of capturing a fleeting moment and turning it into something you can bore your relatives with for decades to come. So go on, snap away! Take a picture of your breakfast (artistic filter mandatory, obviously), your pet looking particularly bewildered, or even just a really interesting-looking pavement crack. The world is your photographic oyster, so get shucking! Just try not to accidentally photograph yourself doing anything too embarrassing – those digital memories have a nasty habit of resurfacing at the most inconvenient moments.

Buzz off! It's World Mosquito Day (20th august)

Ah, the humble mosquito. Nature's tiny vampire, the bane of barbecues, the reason you wake up at 3 am itching like you've rolled in a patch of nettles. Well, guess what? They've got their own day! World Mosquito Day aims to raise awareness about malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases, which is a Very Important Thing. But let's be honest, most of us will probably be celebrating by frantically swatting at any buzzing menace that dares to enter our airspace. Perhaps you could host a "most creatively squashed mosquito" competition? Or maybe bake a mosquito-shaped cake (extra points for realistic proboscis detail)? Whatever floats your boat (or, more accurately, repels the mozzies). Just remember to wear plenty of insect repellent – wouldn't want to give those little bloodsuckers a reason to celebrate too much, would we?

Scoop there it is! It's Spumoni Day (21st august)

Spumoni! Just the word sounds like a joyous explosion of flavour. For those not in the know, spumoni is a moulded italian ice cream made with layers of different colours and flavours, often containing candied fruits and nuts. It’s basically a party in a bowl. So on Spumoni Day, there's only one sensible course of action: acquire some spumoni and devour it with gusto. Don't be shy, go for that extra scoop! Try to identify all the different flavours – it's like a delicious detective game. Bonus points if you can make your own spumoni, although that sounds like the kind of culinary undertaking that might result in more tears than triumphs. Still, even a slightly melty, vaguely spumoni-esque creation is better than no spumoni at all, right?

Halo there! It's Be An Angel Day (22nd august)

Right, time to unleash your inner cherub (or at least try to look like you're not plotting world domination for five minutes). Be An Angel Day is all about performing acts of kindness, big or small. Hold the door open for someone, offer a compliment, maybe even help that little old lady across the road (just make sure she actually wants to cross the road first, wouldn't want to cause an angelic incident). You could even go full-on benevolent superhero and do something truly spectacular, like rescuing a kitten from a tree or donating your entire biscuit stash to charity (okay, maybe not the entire stash, let's be realistic). Whatever you choose, remember it's all about spreading a little bit of goodness around. And who knows, maybe all that angelic behaviour will earn you some good karma points for when you inevitably do something slightly less saintly later in the week.

Whee! It's Ride The Wind Day (23rd august)

Ride The Wind Day! This sounds wonderfully poetic, doesn't it? Visions of majestic eagles soaring through the skies, perhaps even a spot of hang gliding if you're feeling particularly adventurous. But let's be honest, for most of us, "riding the wind" will probably involve sticking our heads out of a car window (safely, of course!) or maybe holding a kite that stubbornly refuses to take off. Still, it's a great excuse to get outside and feel the breeze on your face. You could try flying a kite (prepare for potential tangled-string-induced frustration), go for a bike ride and feel the wind in your hair (helmet hair is a small price to pay for freedom!), or simply find a nice spot to sit and let the wind whisper sweet nothings (or just the general sounds of traffic) in your ear. Whatever you do, take a moment to appreciate the invisible force that's constantly swirling around us.

So there you have it, a whirlwind tour of some truly terrific (and terrifically odd) upcoming holidays. Hopefully, we've inspired you to embrace the bizarre and maybe even celebrate something new. After all, life's too short to only celebrate the usual suspects. Go forth, be merry, be slightly weird, and have a wonderfully wacky time!
